A Lifelong Commitment to Service and Community

Meet Rotherham’s new Mayor for 2023-24, Councillor Robert Taylor. As a long-serving member of the South Yorkshire Fire Service and a dedicated local politician, Mayor Taylor’s lifelong commitment to Rotherham fuels his ambition to uplift the borough and its people. Born and bred in Sheffield, Taylor began his career as a firefighter at 18, a role he maintained until his retirement in 2014. Simultaneously, his interest in politics took shape, culminating in a degree from the Open University at the ripe age of 40. His political journey began in earnest with the Aston Cum Aughton Parish Council, leading to elected positions on the Borough Council for Anston and Woodsetts, and eventually his home ward of Holderness.

Particularly close to his heart is the health, fitness, and wellbeing of Rotherham’s residents, an area he aims to emphasize during his term. Moreover, his focus on children and youth aligns well with Rotherham’s goal to become the Children’s Capital of Culture in 2025.

Supporting Rotherham's Charitable Organizations

In line with his mission to serve the community, Mayor Taylor has selected three charities to support in the upcoming year: The Common Lands of Rotherham Charity, The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity, and HOPE – South Yorkshire Fire – Road and Water Related Trauma Support for Families. Each charity echoes his commitment to fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive environment in Rotherham.
